Wine, glass containers better than plastic

Containers to export wine? Glass beats plastic, at least in the long term. The “bag in box” is becoming increasingly popular because it is unbreakable and very practical to use in international shipments, but to preserve product quality, the bottle is more effective than the bag.

This is the result of a study conducted by experts from a group of Greek and Egyptian universities, who compared the behavior of enological parameters and volatile compounds of the same white wine packaged for six months at a temperature of 20° in dark-colored glass and in two different containers, one made of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and the other of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA).

The data is clear. In bags, the wine maintains its organoleptic characteristics only for 3 months, then they begin to degrade. In particular, the team of researchers found that a substantial part of the beverage's aromas was absorbed by the plastic materials or lost due to the poor seal of the valve.
