What is better for wine export: bottle or plastic packaging? Glass bottles still outperform their counterpart in long-term transportation. Wine in plastic bags is becoming increasingly popular due to its practicality and durability, but noticeably lags behind in preserving the quality and original taste of the product, according to scientists from Egyptian and Greek universities, based on research results. Specialists compared changes in enological parameters and volatile compounds of the same white wine oversix months at 20° temperature, in a dark glass bottle and two plastic packages: made of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA).
The obtained data showed: after 3 months of storage, wine in plastic packaging began to degrade. In particular, a group of researchers found that a significant part of the drink's aroma was absorbed by the plastic or lost due to poor sealing of the valve.
