Italian wines win five gold medals in the first tranche of the IWC 2014 competition. The International Wine Challenge changed its formula, dividing into two tasting sessions. The results of the first phase see 143 awards assigned to Italian wines, with 5 labels securing leading positions, 26 silvers, 51 bronzes, and 61 honorable mentions.

The wines that won gold are: Terragnolo Negroamaro Salento Igp Rosso 2010 from Casa Vinicola Apollonio; Verdicchio di Matelica Cambrugiano from the same vintage by Cantine Belisario; Marsala Superiore Riserva Storica 1988 by Baglio Curatolo Arini 1875; Reius Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2008 from Sartori and, from the same year, Solone Colli Euganei Fior d’Arancio Passito from Fattoria Monte Fasolo.

The IWC 2014 ends in summer, after several steps. In May, the top wines are expected, awarded by combining the performance of the two previous phases. Among the winners, the “Champions” will then be selected, whose presentation is scheduled for July 16, 2014.
