An ice cream as medicine. It is the discovery of the cardiologist from the University of Tor Vergata in Rome, Valerio Sanguigni, who patented Powelinux, a beneficial ice cream with cocoa, hazelnut and green tea flavors. The recipe was tested with a study published in the scientific journal Nutrition, according to which the high antioxidant content in the delicious mix promotes cardiovascular health and optimizes athletic performance.
The ‘medicine ice cream’ was tested on 14 people aged between 20 and 38 years. The volunteers underwent blood tests before and after enjoying a 100-gram ice cream cone, then performed an exercise on a stationary bike. The result is surprising. Two hours after consumption, blood polyphenol levels increased significantly, as did nitric oxide, which improves microcirculation. In the physical test, participants also reached the same goals with less cardiac effort.
According to the professor, this is the unprecedented demonstration that an ice cream can act as a natural medicine. All thanks to antioxidants such as dried fruit (hazelnut), cocoa beans, and green tea, which better preserve beneficial properties when treated at low temperatures.
