Sanctions on Russia, damages to Italy of 7.5 billion in two years

The sanctions EU on Russia have caused damages to Italy for 7.5 billion euros in two years, blocking a growth of Italian agri-food exports to Russia more than doubled in value (+112%) in the five years before the blockade. This is Coldiretti's estimate, denouncing the negative effects on the Italian economy caused by the passive acceptance of American anti-Putin policies.

The Italian agri-food sector was directly hit by the embargo imposed by Russia on August 7, 2014, as retaliation for the reckless European sanctions, and recorded losses exceeding 600 million euros. The measures also affected other Made in Italy sectors, with 2 billion euros in losses in textiles, clothing, accessories, and 1.2 billion in automobiles.

The sanctions and the consequent embargo then stimulated the counterfeit of typical Italian products: from Salame Italia to Casa Italia mozzarella, from Buona Italia salad to Unagrande Robiola, as well as Milano mortadella or Parmesan, all made in Russia. A flood of fake Made in Italy even in Italian restaurants 'on site,' inevitably left short of original raw materials.
