The French app Yuka crowns eight ice creams as the best available in Italy, from a nutritional and health perspective.
Yuka, the app that helps consumers choose 'healthy' foods and cosmetics
Yuka is an app available both in a free version – to obtain a summary judgment on the quality of foods but also cosmetics with the simple scanning of their barcodes – and in a ‘premium’ version, to access such evaluations also remotely, on hundreds of thousands of products. (1)
The scores awarded by Yuka to food products derive from an objective assessment, based on three criteria:
- nutritional profile of foods, calculated with the Nutriscore system LINK (60% of the score)
- possible risks associated with food additives present in individual products, according to scientific literature (30% of the score)
- organic certification (10% of the score).
Cosmetics are instead evaluated based on the presence of substances potentially harmful to health, always based on scientific studies and the authorities responsible for that.
The best eight ice creams in Italy according to Yuka
The best ice creams according to Yuka are those with less sugar and free of additives risky for health. These two elements indeed substantially affect the nutritional quality of ice creams and the combination of pleasure and health, as noted in our market surveys. (2,3,4)
Here is Yuka’s selection, supplemented by our research on the ingredient list, the nutritional declaration and the (indicative) price.
Yuka, an independent ranking
The Yuka team reminds that its ranking of the best ice creams in Italy, like all scores attributed to the generality of products, is independent of brands.
Independence and objectivity of the evaluations – for Yuka, as for GIFT (Great Italian Food Trade) – is indeed guaranteed by the absence of advertising.
