Solo Round the Globe Record, Sardinian ocean excellences
Solo Round the Globe Record, the solo sailing trip around the world brings for the first time to the oceans a provisions stocked with Sardinian excellences of agri-food products. The adventure of Gaetano Mura, Sardinian ocean racer, starts in October 2016 from Cagliari to surpass the result of the Chinese Guo Chuan, who first accomplished the feat in 137 days in 2013.
Adding flavor to the Italian sailor's challenge is the selection of some Sardinian food excellences including 40 DOP and IGP labels, 189 traditional agri-food products (PAT), and some prestigious Slow Food presidia. Among these, all those suitable to be transported and preserved for a long time without refrigeration are loaded into the Solo Round the Globe Record provisions, conceived in an agro-pastoral society where, for example, carasau bread had to last months for shepherds during transhumance.
Together with nutritional kits based on freeze-dried foods and supplements, the Solo Round the Globe Record provisions contain notable Sardinian excellences such as biscotti breads, pasta, legumes, tuna, which, like other specialties such as Sardinian DOP oil or Sardinian DOP cheeses, reflect a diet that made the island one of the blue zone of the planet, characterized by greater longevity.
