Low sodium mineral water, when it is needed
Drink only Mineral water natural low in sodium is considered a healthy habit. However, on closer inspection, while this choice is necessary for people with hypertension, for the general population it may even seem a misleading belief. Preferring mineral water that contains less is certainly an appreciable sign of attention, but waters are a minor source. The greater amount, in fact, is ingested with packaged foods and with excesses at the table, for those accustomed to salting every dish abundantly.
According to the classification based on the predominant concentration of one of the salts present, natural water with sodium above 200 mg/l is defined as sodic water. A level rarely observed in bottled products. Mineral water containing sodium is useful for athletes to replenish elements lost through sweating. For hypertensive individuals, however, low-mineralized, diuretic types are recommended to eliminate excess sodium and counteract increased blood pressure.
Everyone, as a precaution, should avoid a diet with too much salt. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends not exceeding 5 grams per day. This limit is still widely exceeded.
