Cirò, the oldest red wine in the world
The Cirò wine is undoubtedly the wine red Calabrian best known and appreciated wine in Italy and abroad. “Child of the sun and clay”, Cirò owes its peculiar characteristics to vineyards caressed by the winds of sirocco and tramontana, to the soils of Cirotano that confer structure and elegance and to the significant thermal excursions that allow the bunches to mature slowly, reaching full development of aromas and taste.
The Cirò Rosso Doc presents a bright and transparent ruby red color; it has an elegant bouquet in which floral and fruity notes stand out: rose, sour cherry, red fruits and sweet spices. On the palate it has a body of just weight and a balanced freshness, it is intense and soft with a persistent fruity and almond finish. Today, Cirò wine is produced in red, white and rosé shades. But the classic Cirò wine is produced exclusively in the municipalities of Cirò.
This red wine pairs very well with any type of meat: braised meats, sausages, stews, roasted red meats; and then with spicy and challenging dishes and with mature cheeses. The history of Cirò wine dates back to the 8th century BC: some Greek colonists landed on the coast of Punta Alice and founded Krimisa, the current Cirò Marina, where a wine civilization flourished.
