Syrah wine, a good red
The Syrah wine? Also called Shiraz, it is a wine red which belongs to the large group of so-called “international” grapes, although of uncertain origin. The Syrah wine, according to some, seems to come from the village of Shiraz, in Persia and was brought to our country for the first time in antiquity through the city of Syracuse. According to another version, Syrah wine seems to have come from Albania, as there are some genetic affinities with the local Shesh vine. Further DNA analysis indicates similarities of Syrah with the vines of Trentino-Alto Adige Teroldego andLagrein.
Syrah wine is also known for its typical aroma of black pepper, a characteristic that in this grape – when cultivated with quality criteria and in particular climatic conditions – is impossible not to perceive among its rich repertoire of aromas. In Italy, an excellent Syrah wine is produced in the areas of Tuscany, Lazio, Puglia, and Sicily.
Given its high pigment content, the color of the wine produced with grapes from Syrah vineyards is generally dark red which ages towards garnet, with rather low transparency. On the nose, Syrah is complex, fruity and floral, with hints of red fruits and violet. On the palate it is dry, full-bodied, tannic and moderately alcoholic.
