Negroamaro wine

Negroamaro wine, red from the South

The wine  Negroamaro is an excellent red, but also a grape variety. Grown almost exclusively in Apulia, particularly in Salento, it thrives thanks to the sun and wind that characterize the climate of Italy's 'heel'. Its presence imparts intense and fruity aromas to the most famous wines of the area, such as Salice Salentino DOC or Primitivo di Manduria.

Always used to strengthen the generous local red, Negroamaro (or negramaro without the ‘o’, nigra maru, Nero leccese) is itself a great wine with an intense dark ruby-granate red color, with almost black reflections and in which slight bitter notes coexist with a full, dry and round taste.

Negroamaro wine expresses all its potential with labels such as Galatina or Lizzano. However, it is rarely used in purity. It pairs well with other grape varieties, primarily the Malvasia nera varieties grown in the provinces of Lecce and Brindisi, or with Sangiovese and Montepulciano. An all-meal wine, it pairs perfectly with the traditional homemade pasta 'Sagne' (with meatballs or chickpeas), lamb meat, and typical Apulian offal rolls.
