Parmigiano Reggiano, tasty nutritional virtues

A unique taste and valuable nutritional values make of  Parmigiano Reggiano the undisputed king of Italian cheeses. At first it was simply called “grana”, but to distinguish it from Grana Padano since 1955 it has taken the name by which it is known worldwide.

The production area includes the provinces of Parma, Reggio Emilia and Modena, and those of Mantua and Bologna, but only for the areas delimited by two rivers, respectively on the left of the Po and on the right of the Reno. An area known as the “treasure island”.

The precious nutritional values of Parmigiano Reggiano are recognized in pediatric protocols of various Italian regions, which include it among the foods suggested for weaning infants. Thanks to its high content of proteins and essential amino acids, calcium and various other minerals, it is fully ranked among the ideal foods for a healthy and balanced diet.

Historical documents attest exports of Parmigiano Reggiano to England as early as the mid-17th century. Witness and testimonial of its territory, this precious Emilian cheese, long known and appreciated on every continent, still shows a strong export vocation today.
