True wholemeal bread, how to recognize it

true wholemeal bread, a precious food to bring to the table every day. Rich in fiber and essential fatty acids contained in wheat germ, among many others types of bread is recommended in the diet for the benefits it provides. To enjoy it, it is good to learn to distinguish it without error.

To identify the “real” one, just check the list of ingredients. In the composition, flours or semolinas are explicitly defined as “wholemeal”. Although this specification is optional, operators always adopt it to highlight that their product is “real”. If, on the other hand, the characteristic ingredient is simply called “wheat flour” or “semolina,” and is followed by bran or wheat germ, it is a “false wholemeal,” made with refined flours. Like the real one, the bread may contain aa good percentage of fibers (added), but it is characterized by lower nutritional quality.

When choosing true whole grain, it is preferable to opt for organic farming production. Whole grain cereal, in fact, also retains the outermost part of the grain, which is more exposed to treatments with pesticides and phytosanitary products.
