Coop, here is the Supermarket of the future

Where the raw material comes from, in which packaged foods allergens are found, how to properly dispose of the packaging of a product. Information usually written in hard-to-read characters and many others (usually absent from packages) are accessible to everyone in Supermarket of the future By Coop: a thousand square meters in Bicocca Village, northern suburbs of Milan, where the most frequented cinema of the Lombard capital is also located.

The structure re-proposes the Future Food District successfully experimented during Expo 2015. Furnished in light dove-gray wood, with low displays, the large sales area is entirely at the service of the consumer. Coop is not new to this policy: the only GDO brand to create a website to report the origin of branded products, it makes transparency an unstoppable flagship. Now a step forward with the help of technology.

In the supermarket of the future even the customer less accustomed to using smartphones can interact with the 100 interactive monitors distributed throughout the store and receive every information about the 6,000 products on sale and the ongoing promotions. Along the aisles and the fresh counters (fruit and vegetables, meat, and fish), the “touch totems” offer a screen on which to select products with a touch of the fingers, or “read them” by passing them under the barcode reader. Through these simple moves, you access the “augmented label,” meaning totell every piece of information about the product being considered. From the same totems you can compose the shopping list, to be picked up two hours later at the parking lot.

The project was conducted by Inres for the engineering part and by Accenture for the digital part. The hi-tech innovations will also be extended to other outlets of the extensive network, which has over 1,100 stores.
