On 3/9/20 in Palermo the summit takes place ‘Blockchain: everything you need to know’, organized by Legacoop Sicilia in collaboration with the Palermo Enna Chamber of Commerce, STAL Food Sciences and Technologies and Wiise Chain.
‘Blockchain, everything you need to know’
Objective of the event is to clarify the true meaning of a system of blockchain public and analyze its application opportunities in a strategy to enhance agri-food chains rooted in the territories. Also from the perspective of internationalization of quality productions, online e offline.
The blockchain public – beyond the hype imposed by marketing of large consulting firms – is a tool for digital notarization of material flows and various phases of the supply-chain. Once its technical meaning is clarified, it is essential to focus on processes, values and objectives of operators and supply chains intending to consider its application.
An efficient and ethical supply chain can benefit from this technology, provided that it organizes Partnership effective among agricultural, processing and distribution sectors, and shares its values ‘from farm to fork’. In a process that must inform, involve and benefit the consumers themselves.
Traceability, value chain, sustainable development
Technology By blockchain public can primarily strengthen the traceability systems already adopted by operators in the food supply chain to comply with legal requirements. Even more so as the system is based on global standards (GS1) and is accessible in real time to the interested social parties. The effectiveness of the system therefore depends on its ‘democratization’, linked to cost accessibility and ease of use (interoperability with systems already in use).
The architecture the system can be modulated, in relation to the objectives of operators and supply chains, through the recording of multiple categories of data. From field notebooks and analyses (e.g. soils, water, seed genetics, inputs, agricultural and processed products), veterinary records and other relevant information on feed and treatments important for animal welfare. Ingredients and additives, food aids and consumables, MOCA, processing and transformation processes, distribution and management of returns.
The value chain It can be highlighted for the dual purpose of identifying areas for improvement and opportunities for rebalancing, as well as to show the meaning of the prices of commodities that express a ‘system’ quality. Taking into account the various elements that characterize and guarantee the quality of agricultural raw materials, processes, and products. But also the commitment of every operator on the various fronts of sustainable and participatory development. That is, towards ecosystems, workers and communities, consumers. Without neglecting the advantages of the supply chainshort.
