Expo agriculture, organic practices for the future

Expo e organic agriculture, a branch of the Universal Exposition 2015 that lays the foundation for a new discussion concerning the issue of hunger and malnutrition in developing countries. Expo and agriculture are two key words to safeguard the path of humanity. Italy is the world leader in the organic approach to cultivation and the 8500 sqm dedicated by Expo 2015 to this sector exalt its primacy.

However, organic practice could be something else, it would not only be about not using chemical resources, a French agronomist claims, Jacques Caplat. According to the scholar, also cited in the Expo debate, organic agriculture is a real “agricultural organization“, as defined by Ehrenfried Pfeiffer (1899 – 1961) in which man plants multiple crops in the same field and raises animals adapted to the environment. Studies conducted by the agronomy school of Rennes would demonstrate the success of this idea, which would be able to produce almost twice the food of conventional agriculture.

The industrial agriculture model imposed by agro-chemical giants, on the contrary, foresees unique plants of selected varieties for production (“unreal” according to the agricultural consultant), specialized companies guided by highly mechanized systems.
