Milk By growth or simply cow's milk? The dilemma of many parents finds various opinions on the administration of different types of milk to the child, with emphasis on specific properties of each.
With the terminology “growing-up milk” we mean a food based on cow's milk, often deprived of a greater or lesser part of its fat content, but enriched with minerals and vitamins. It is also called “follow-on milk“, to indicate its continuation after breastfeeding, an irreplaceable source of nutrition for babies at least until weaning, as reiterated by WHO in 2013. The World Health Organization has stated the unproven necessity of the various types of follow-on formulas on the market.
However, at the end of this period, some pediatricians expressly recommend growing-up milk, a specific infant product, because of its artificial vitamin and mineral enrichment, but also because they tend to see cow's milk as having excessive lipid and protein content. Others, instead, praise the quality of “of the dairy plant” milk diluted initially with water and then consumed whole, especially in the semi-skimmed format.
