Milan is set to become the world’s fair trade capital for 2015. The candidacy of the city was made official in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during the general conference of the World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO), which came to a close on May 31st. The event unites the international movement for fair and responsible trade every two years. The next appointment has been fixed for Milan in 2015 in conjunction with the World’s Fair. “We are very happy that Milan has received this nomination,” stated the city’s mayor Giuliano Pisapia, “it is a role that the city will live up to through fairer commerce that recognises the value of the work done by food producers and craftsmen in many developing countries. This is an important factor for the future of humanity, and is a central theme for the Expo: Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life.”
