Food Security Primary Concern

On October 1st the Joint Programming Initiative on Agriculture, Food Security and Climate Change (FACCE-JPI) will launch an invitation to tender worth 19 mln euros with the objective of supporting interdisciplinary research and innovative approaches to respond to the consequences of climate change on agricultural production in Europe.

FACCE-JPI gathers 21 member-states, including Italy, from the European Research Area to develop more sustainable farming as a way to guarantee food security to the present and future inhabitants of the continent. The report came from FASI, the most complete Italian source for news on institutional financing.

The call is part of the ERA-Net Plus contribution to the Seventh Framework Programme for EU Research (FP7), and will focus on the effects, as well as the causes of climate change in agriculture. Research proposals addressing identifying plants and animals genetically resistant to climate change, parasites and climate-related disease, managing land and water resources, in addition to adapting agriculture systems will be considered. The projects will last for a period of three years, and can be submitted by transnational research bodies, public or private in nature, with locations in more than two countries.
