From February 25th to 28th 2013 Dubai hosted Gulfood, one of the world’s most important food, drink, and hospitality shows. Developed over 25 years, it has evolved into a premier event for international food and beverage exporters looking for a platform to launch sales in the Middle East.
4,200 exhibitors from 110 countries brought products, services, and experience to Gulfood, as the food industry seeks to cash in on new consumption patterns, changing demographics, and increased wealth. In addition to being Italy’s eighth largest export market, the UAE is considered a foothold to enter the region’s more closed markets. Total food import volumes to Gulf Cooperation Council states reached 20 billion euros in 2010, and is expected to double by 2020.
Italy confirmed itself as a top exhibitor with 250 stands. Participants from the country’s food sector included producers of olive oil, cheese and dairy products, cured Halal meats, pasta, sauces, espresso machines, kitchen equipment, as well as companies offering ancillary services.
Gulfood 2013 also featured initiatives like those organised by Unioncamere and Isnart to promote Italian quality and tradition through Iicuae’s certification of local restaurants, and Afidop, which escorted five Italian consortiums, including those for gorgonzola and pecorino romano.
