Adequate amounts of dairy products keep elderly women fitter, according to research carried out in Australia. These benefits are associated with keeping, or introducing, good quantities of milk, yogurt and cheese into their daily diet.
The study compared daily consumption in the diets of 1,456 women between the ages of 70 and 85 years of age, and their physical conditions. The elderly women that declared consuming one, or more portions of dairy products each day showed a higher lean body mass, as well as better physical abilities. Similar effects were also observed in younger adult females that added a third portion to their daily eating.
Dairy products can help to maintain muscle mass in a variety of ways. They offer noble proteins, high in biological value, improving and spurring tissue growth.
