Workshops on the environment and games in the open air were the piatto del giorno on Sunday 29 September. The nationally proclaimed day opened some 1,900 educational farms across Italy to the public, with particular focus on kids.
The event hosted a plethora of initiatives to boost awareness in consumers of every age group on the rural environment, and the work that goes on there. Some farms featured bread making seminars and crafts, while in others it was possible to participate in the fruit and vegetable harvest, or preparing meals with the freshly picked produce.
Open Educational Farms Day was part of the Agri@tour: CAP Until 2020 – Agriculture in Movement project, promoted by Arezzo Fiere, Agrituristi, Terranostra, Turismo Verde and the WWF, with special support from the European Union. The aim is to highlight the multi-functionality of agricultural enterprises, in addition to their ability to offer services and activities for the protection and strengthening of the rural environment.
