Parma ham, the most sold abroad

Prosciutto di Parma achieved record results in international markets, with exports growing by 10% in 2012, a figure that makes it the best-selling Italian delicatessen product abroad. According to the data released by the Consortium, the export of Parma PDO is worth 232 million euros and exports account for 28% of the total turnover, a much higher share than the average of the Italian agri-food sector (19%). The first export market is the US, while Australia and Japan are promising very well. In the EU, performance is important in Germany, where exports increased by 14%, and the Netherlands. These results, commented the president of the Consortium Paolo Tanara, “are a breath of fresh air to face the crisis in the internal market”.
