Hemp Revolution, the project of the University of Camerino

The University of Camerino (Unicam) has started Hemp Revolution, a project for the extraction and purification of CBD from industrial hemp waste and the creation of valuable by-products.

Hemp Revolution, valuable raw materials

The ideaentrepreneurial of  Hemp Revolution is to use industrial hemp as a multifunctional product and emblem ofThe circular economy. Able to supply raw materials for food, nutraceutical and pharmaceutical applications, as well as inputfor agriculture and animal husbandry, green building, bioplastic fabrics. 

Hempafter all, it is an extraordinary resource. This resilient plant, which grows without the need for agro-toxicants, is exceptional in CO2 sequestering as well as in soil purification. Its inflorescences contain active ingredients of interest for medicine and phytotherapy. And i semi, as such or squeezed a oil, proteins, Omega 3, fiber and micronutrients worthy of the qualification of superfoods.

Greater profitability

Hemp Revolution, the project presentedin Rimini on 6.5.22, on the occasion of Macfrut 2022, has the objective of extracting and purifying cannabidiol (CBD) from industrial hemp to improve the profitability of the crop. 

'The project provides for the purpose of isolating the CBD in its pure and crystalline form from inflorescences and waste materials of industrial hemp supplied by a partner company.

During the first yearthanks to the machinery acquired with the PSR project, we have developed the various steps that led us to obtain a fair amount of purified cbd ', explains Riccardo Petrelli, scientific manager of the coordinated project together with prof. Filippo Maggi at the University of Camerino, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Health Products.
