Olive oil enriched in polyphenols
Enriched olive oil in polyphenols. It is the last frontier of research on the benefits of oil traveled by a group of Portuguese researchers. Scholars have ascertained that a common enriched olive oil has the same health effects as extra virgin with a high phenolic content, for which EFSA has granted the use of the health claim “they contribute to the protection of blood lipids from oxidative stress”.
The Lisbon university team gave the laboratory guinea pigs an oil enriched with 5mg of hydroxytyrosol per kg, observing the same effect as a good extra virgin. In fact, an improvement in the joint function of the guinea pig with induced rheumatoid arthritis was found - even in the acute phase of the inflammatory process, with a reduction in histological damage and oxidation.
The work "Protective effects of hydroxytyrosol-supplemented refined olive oil in animal models of acute inflammation and rheumatoid arthritis" was published in "The Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry".
