Generale Conserves, which produces AsdoMar tuna, has diversified its offer through the acquisition of canned beef producer Manzotin. The first stages of the move were finalised in April by the Genova based fish conserves company and the multinational, Bolton Group. The Italian firm with its canning facility in Olbia, Sardegna, is growing thanks to its business philosophy built around sustainability in fishing, and in production. AsdoMar, which ended last year with 151 million euros in turnover, heads Greenpeace’s special 2012 rankings for sustainable tuna. The purchase of the historic Italian brand Manzotin, Generale Conserves chairman Vito Gulli stated, also means “safeguarding the food traditions of the Italian brands recognised so strongly by consumers for their quality and value.”
