Gluten free, trend of unstoppable growth

Gluten free, trend without restraints. The Italian gluten-free market promises to triple in the next decade, while for 2016 it prepares to reach a business turnover of more than four and a half billion dollars (4.64billion), according to the current report by the British Visiongain Research Institute, which analyzes world trends, including those in Italy.

The Italian production of gluten-free aliments is conducted by specialized small-medium enterprises, mainly concentrated in the north, in Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy, Veneto and Piedmont, stated by the latest National Observatory on the gluten-free food industry.

Sales volumes were driven by Italian celiac Consumers – over 170thousand people, with an increase of 15% between 2012 and 2014 – but also by a large audience that chooses gluten free products, regardless of intolerance to this vegetable protein, even thanks the spread of questionable eating fads. Abroad, the demand for Italian gluten-free edibles comes especially from France, Germany and Britain in Europe and the United States outside the European area.
