Sales of nutritional supplements are continuing to grow in Italy. According to the results of research carried out by Nielsen reported on in Distribuzione Moderna, the number of units sold between March 2012 and February 2013 reached 142 million, a rise of 4.2% compared to the same period of a year earlier. In addition to volume, the increase also impacted on value with the segment earning 3.9% more, reaching nearly 2 billion euros (1.92). Regarding sales channels, the lion’s share was taken by chemist’s shops with 87.2% of total sales. Lagging behind, but with a spike in gains was large-scale distribution outlets which saw sales values up 11.7%, and volumes at +16.2%.
