Negroamaro wine, true italian spirit
Negroamaro wine comes from the grape variety of the same name produced almost exclusively in the southern region of Puglia. This Italian red wine is a specialty of the Salento peninsula, the “heel” of Italy’s “boot” shape. This landscape’s caressing sun and sea breeze bestow the intense fruit bouquets of the territory’s most famous reds – Negroamaro, Salice Salentino DOC and Primitivo di Manduria.
In addition to Negroamaro wine, the varietal has been used for time immemorial to strengthen the structure of generous local red wines. Known locally as negramaro, nigra maru and nero leccese, on its own it is an optimal wine. Negroamaro is dark ruby in color with close to black reflexes, its tannins mingle with a full-bodied texture that can be described as nothing less than round.
Negroamaro wine reaches its highest achievement with the Galatina and Lizzano classifications noting these areas of Lecce and Taranto respectively. Due to its flexibility Negroamaro is frequently finished with small percentages of other varietals like Malvasia nera, Sangiovese and Montepulciano. This is the heart of the deep south.
