Brunello di Montalcino, Italian from Tuscany
Brunello di Montalcino and the history of the territory are one and the same. This red is universally recognized as a stunning achievement of Italian wine production, and is exclusively produced inside the borders of the striking town of Montalcino in the province of Siena. Just 15% of nearly 60,000 acres is dedicated to vine cultivation on a single rectangular hill covered in large part by woods.
In terms of climate and soil, Montalcino embodies a perfect area for producing high quality wines with Brunello as its maximum expression. This natural predisposition is enhanced by the ability of the master enologists that are able to balance the slightest differences that arise in the different exposures of each vineyard. Brunello di Montalcino is made 100% the sangiovese grape variety, and together with Barolo it has the greatest longevity in the cellar.
According to strict guidelines, Brunello must be aged for a long period in oak, and for at least 4 months in the bottle. No Brunello is available for consumption before five years after harvest.
