Between politics and corporate responsibility, the challenge of obesity and diabetes

During the last plenary session of the 'European Platform for Action on Diet, Physical Activity and Health', in Brussels on 6 and 7 April 2016, numerous protagonists met - including representatives of WHO (World Health Organization) and JRC (Joint Research Center) - involved in various capacities in European policies to combat the obesity and diabetes epidemic which is affecting the population.

The meeting confirmed that the initiatives promoted are still insufficient to counter current trends in the field of nutrition, as various organizations have highlighted (see the Beuc intervention, representing consumers).

Although the worsening of the well-being and health conditions of the population (especially young people) is a source of concern - not least because of the risk of an increase in health costs - the actions in the field are weak, and there is no lack of missed opportunities.

On the meeting of the European Platform for Action on Diet, Physical Activity and Health, Dario Dongo proposes a summary of the topics that emerged and further ideas.
