Living a long life in good health is the new frontier of scientific research. As well as the desire of a population now accustomed to a prolonged life but too often afflicted by chronic diseases and frailty, both physical and mental. Degrading conditions for the individual and a source of complications for family members and the health system.
The causes of declining health during aging and the solutions to consider are discussed by a panel of leading experts at the 5th International Congress 'HEALTHY LIFESPAN – Positive nutrition, anti inflammation diet, physical activity and sport', organized by the Paolo Sorbini Foundation on 4 and 5 October 2024 in Milan.
Psychophysical well-being, threats and solutions
The event provides an overview of the evidence emerging in scientific literature and further research underway on the path that leads to the crossroads between a long life in good health and premature aging marked instead by the development of inflammatory, chronic, metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer's and Parkinson's (in primis)).
The key themes of the Healthy Lifespan – nutrition, supplementation, diet, chronic disease prevention, inflammation control and physical activity – are exposed in the light of the most recent discoveries. With indications that are not at all theoretical, but within everyone's reach.
The program
The assembly scientific is divided into three sessions:
1. Longevity and Healthy Lifespan
The first session focuses on preventable risk factors, through lifestyle changes and food supplements of proven efficacy (polyphenols, resolvins etc.).
Professor Camillo Ricordi presides and speaks, followed by scientists Alberto Albanese, Giovanni Scapagnini, Alberto Mantovani, Charles N. Serhan and Barry Sears (whose qualifications are set out in the attached program).
The round table'Healthy longevity', moderated by journalist Mario Calabresi, at 8,15pm, concludes the day.
2. Physical Activity and Exercise for Healthy Longevity
The part dedicated to the beneficial function of movement – understood both as physical activity and as sporting physical exercise – is coordinated by Prof. Giovanni Scapagnini.
The session highlights crucial aspects to optimize the benefits of physical exercise (nutritional supplementation, management of inflammation in endurance sports, etc.) and strategies for using it as medicine.
The speakers are Asker Jeukendrup, Fabrizio Angelini, Luca Mondazzi, Silvano Zanuso, Stefano Righetti, Jordan D. Metzl.
3. Weight Management for Successful Aging
The last session addresses the topic of body weight control to age well. It ranges from metabolic health to functional nutrition, with attention also to the contemporary epidemic, obesity, and to microbiome, a 'control center' of the human organism.
Professor Hellas Cena leads the session and intervenes. The speakers are Dorothy D. Sears, Sara Farnetti, Elena Casiraghi, Karin Michels.
A wide space for comparison between the participants and the speakers concludes each working session.
