Italian wine exports are headed towards new records. While a 5% increase in commerce has been forecast for bottled wine this year, Italian exports could reach even higher, to 6%, hitting the all-time record of 3.6 billion euros (USD 4.7 million). Italy’s share of the global total is expected to reach 19%. The data comes from the Unione Italiana Vini‘s estimates for 2013.
Prosecco is among the most sought after products, seeing growing demand equaling 40%, with the US pushing up sales. Despite the -6% registered for quantity, the first six months posted a 5.6% increase in value for Italian wine on the international market, with volumes up +1.9%.
