An innovative test to diagnose celiac disease in primary school is being supported by the Angelo Molinari Foundation, already allowing for some 2,000 children to benefit from screening in Civitavecchia. The initiative is now continuing for first and second grade students in the towns of Tolfa, Allumiere and Santa Severa. The screening is coordinated by Dr. Margherita Bonamico, director of the childhood celiac disease clinic at Umberto I Hospital of La Sapienza University in Rome, the only structure which offers the exam, developed together with Dr. Claudio Tiberti. The testing that the Molinari Foundation supports has the great advantage of not being invasive. Based on a dose of antibodies in the children’s saliva, it has proven effective up to the age of 9.
