The 25th edition of SANA, the International Exhibition of Organic and Natural Products will open its doors in Bologna from September 7th to 10th. The greatest novelty this year is that the event will literally have no boundaries inside the capital of the Emilia Romagna region, which, if only for a weekend, will be transformed into the Italian centre for all that is organic, natural and herbal.
There has been a huge boom in the number of exhibitors (+20% compared to 2012), including the participation of 1,500 foreign buyers. The exhibition will be inaugurated by the ecologist Vandana Shiva, vice-minister of agricultural policy in charge of Expo 2015, Maurizio Martina, and chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development, Paolo De Castro. In the afternoon of opening day the meeting “SANA Observatory: Organic Food Made in Italy in Figures”, curated by Nomisma.
According to SANA data, in Italy in 2013 54.5% of consumers have bought at least one organic food product. 32.4% of Italians that eat organic buy these products almost every day, 31.5% every week. For 72.2%, food safety is the reason for the purchase, but among frequent customers 29% buy them because they are good.
