Aroma of Espresso and Business

Italian espresso continues to spread throughout the world gaining an increasing number of admirers. Lavazza seems firm in its desire to challenge the American chain Starbucks, and has announced its landing in the UK market with the opening of 400 coffee bars over the next ten years. The first 50 are expected by 2015, five of which are set to open in the near future. The first are to be located in Derby, Leeds, Newburt, and in two areas of London, where the Turinese espresso company is already present in Harrod’s.
The Italian company will supply its “Lavazza Expression” shops with its espresso, train personnel, but will not take an active role in retail management. The business model is the same that Lavazza has already adopted in numerous countries, including China where the company is a direct competitor of the US giant. Starbucks plans to triple its 500 points of sale over the same period.
Illy has also contributed to bringing the taste and style of espresso to the People’s Republic with its eco-friendly shop in Beijing, leaving an indelible mark on the city with its glass and metal frame. The facility hosts exhibitions, meetings, and lessons on espresso conducted by the University of Turin.
