Sales of Italian pasta abroad are soaring. In January 2013 export volumes for this traditional Italian food product grew by 27% compared to the same period of 2012. The results came from a Coldiretti report based on data from the Italian National Statistics Institute published on Distribuzione Moderna. It is nothing less than an all-time record for foreign markets. Two-thirds of spaghetti, penne, tagliatelle, tortellini and rigatoni pasta Made in Italy were sold in other European countries, above all Germany (+22%) and the UK (+19%). But astonishing results also came from beyond Europe, with exports to Canada and the US increasing by 47% and 61% respectively. Latin America almost went off the scale at +78%. Asian markets also continued to show promise: China (+36%), India (+86%) and Japan (+36%). Unbelievable three-digit growth was seen in Africa (+147%) and Russia (+127%).
