The annual report issued by Fairtrade International for 2012-2013 highlights a positive trend that shows consolidated consumers and increased sales. The global organisation fights to guarantee better living conditions for workers in developing countries through its certification.
The documented results are part of the Unlocking the Power programme that Fairtrade promoted last year. The initiative generated an increase of 16% in organisations of affiliate producers, in addition to a 20% increase in sales equally a total volume of 4.8 billion euros.
Studies commissioned by Fairtrade show that 9 out of 10 consumers in its 5 primary markets recognise the products and consider them reliable. The countries in which they are bought most frequently are Germany (33%), the Netherlands (26%), Sweden (28%), Switzerland (15%) and the United Kingdom (16%).
