Palm oil, Altroconsumo reports. Lorenzin and Andriukaitis fail
In food with palm oil, Altroconsumo revealed dangerous contaminators at levels over the limit. And it now demands Health Minister Beatrice Lorenzin and EU Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis take urgent steps. Dario Dongo, Great Italian Food Trade founder, speaks of “an alarm to face equal to any serious risk to food safety. Not only in Europe, where inertia still reigns, but also in Italy, pursuant to CE 178/02 (articoli 19, 14)”.
Analyses on snacks, cookies, crisps and milk for sucklings with poor tropical fat conducted by Altroconsumo (published 16 June) reveal the presence of GE and 3-MCPD, cancerogenous and toxic for kidneys and testicles, in excess. Just eat a snack and a couple of cookies to surpass the threshold indicated by Efsa on 3 May 2016.
Lorenzin and Andriukaitis must now work on the palm oil matter.
“The extent of risks linked to palm oil consumption – of which Altroconsumo supplied the nth proof – is added to considerations on awareness the great users had for years. And what the magistrates must deal with,” comments Dario Dongo.
