Coffee, Types and Mythical Espresso

Coffee, the thought alone conjures feelings of the best of our mornings. Types of coffee are a rite for every Italian, and this habit has circled the globe with its unmistakable aroma. Italian coffee takes hold of the senses, especially near bars where quality espresso is served to customers that are linked to this irresistible temptation.

There is a long list of different types of coffee: Decaffeinated, instant, freeze-dried, in grains, ground, compressed in single-use pods and capsules for machines used at home. Whichever form you choose, the origins of this stimulating beverage are the same, with roots that go back to the 13th century. From the high plain of Ethiopia, it reached Arabia and then the entire Muslim civilization. It entered Europe through Turkey on a one way ticket.

Today, the world’s number one producer is Brazil, Followed by Vietnam, Columbia and Indonesia. Among the 80 types of coffee in existence, the most cultivated varieties are Arabica and Robusta. The first is more aromatic, with a lower dose of caffeine, and commands a higher price. Together, they represent 99% of the market. They are also those that are transformed into Italian coffee blends that make each espresso a universal symbol of Italian excellence.
