EIC, European Innovation Council. The first calls for funding

The European Innovation Council, EIC - European Innovation Council, has published the first calls for funding. The organism is one of the pillars of the new program Horizon europe and aims to identify and support groundbreaking technologies and breakthroughs with the potential to expand internationally and become leader of the market.

EIC supports all stages of innovation from research and development to science underpinning innovative technologies, to validating and demonstrating groundbreaking technologies and innovations to meet real-world needs, to developing and scaling of startup and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

EIC, the calls in three schemes

Financing and support are organized into three main funding schemes:

1) EIC Pathfinder for advanced research to develop the scientific basis to support innovative technologies;

2) EIC Transition to validate technologies and develop business plan for specific applications;

3) EIC Accelerator to support companies (SMEs, startup, spin-out and, in exceptional cases, small mid cap) to bring their innovations to market and encourage scalability.

In any case, direct financial support to “innovators” is enhanced with access to a range of business acceleration services.

The 'open' calls

Most of the funding will be awarded through open calls ('Open Funding ') without predefined thematic priorities and are designed to allow support for all technologies and innovations that cut across different scientific, technological, sectoral and application fields or represent new combinations.

The 'closed' calls

Tenders closed ('EIC Strategic Challenges') finance specific strategic priorities and integrate with open calls.

Further details are reported in Work Program of the EIC which can be consulted here.

Our team of WIISE extension is available for strategic and regulatory consultancy - as well as for market analysis and communication - in favor of companies and consortia wishing to submit their projects to the funding calls in question.
