Ciolos Suspends New Norms

EU Agriculture and Rural Development Commissioner Dacian Ciolos called back on the decision regarding new un-refillable olive oil bottles in restaurants. The decision came after a fierce press campaign against the new rules in English and German media. With the anti-fraud measures for restaurants withdrawn, it remains to be seen what will come of those for the visibility of print on olive oil labels, which was contained in the same bill. The text will be subject to modification, and another vote. Before this, however, Ciolos plans to consult with restaurants and consumers, so there is no clear timeframe. Criticism has since come from Europe’s largest producing and consuming countries of this olive nectar.
