Market for Home-Use

The two historic Italian brands Illy and Indesit have sealed an alliance for the production and distribution of domestic-use espresso machines. The Marche based Indesit will develop a machine created especially for Illy espresso capsules as a part of its Hotpoint small home appliance line, launched last year. The two companies will try to disturb Nespresso’s dominant position in the home espresso market. The market for pre-portioned coffee is on the rise, and currently accounts for 8% of sales. The Swiss company leads with a 20% share. Illy hopes to spark competition through sustainability with its Responsible Supply Chain Process certificate, which proves not only the reduced environmental impact of its production process, but also the efforts of the Trieste based firm in the field of social responsibility.
