The non-profit association GS1 has presented its global protocol for sustainable packaging, which can be accessed through a free online webinar. The Global Protocol for Packaging Sustainability (GPPS) was developed in collaboration with the Consumer Goods Forum (CGF), and includes 40 environmental, economic and social indicators.
Adhesion to the standard allows companies to reduce costs linked to their environmental impact, as well as improve their positioning on the market. The parameters of GPPS will be available on the GS1 “Global Data Synchronisation Network” (GDSN). GS1, a neutral organisation present in 150 countries, offers support to the synergies between different sector operators through a system of global standards. Among the institutions creations is the bar code, which celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2013.
